Design Nine can provide comparative analyses of various last mile architectures, including fiber, WiFi, WiMax, satellite, DSL, and cable modem services. This is often a place where community projects can get bogged down trying to sort out competing vendor claims, and we will help you make the right decisions for your basic network architecture.

We can identify middle mile backbone needs, design a regional fiber, wireless, or fiber/wireless hybrid backbone network, and include complete pre-engineering cost estimates.

Our broadband planning work for last mile fiber and wireless network designs typically includes:

• Complete equipment and vendor recommendations for the core network and the distribution network.
• Fiber route layouts down to the street and premise, including construction cost estimates, handhole and pedestal placement, location of equipment huts and fiber patch panels and splice cans, and network electronics.
• Estimates of fiber route miles and highly detailed GIS maps of fiber and wireless routes.
• Our network architecture designs include vendor and equipment recommendations, network diagrams, and accompanying system descriptions needed for grant proposals and loans.

We use a team approach to the network design, and bring experienced engineering and construction firms into the design effort early in the process. Whenever possible, we prefer to partner with local firms to keep jobs and payroll in the community, and local fiber and wireless contractors can bring valuable knowledge of local conditions to the design effort.
